Es una enfermedad muy com\u00fan de las enc\u00edas causada por la acumulaci\u00f3n de bacterias en los dientes que se denomina placa. Provoca infecci\u00f3n bacteriana e inflamaci\u00f3n de las enc\u00edas. Los s\u00edntomas m\u00e1s comunes son irritaci\u00f3n, enrojecimiento e inflamaci\u00f3n de las enc\u00edas. El tratamiento de la gingivitis consiste en la desinfecci\u00f3n de sus enc\u00edas realizando una higiene bucal profesional. Tambi\u00e9n conocida como enfermedad periodontal, la periodontitis es una infecci\u00f3n grave de las enc\u00edas que da\u00f1a no s\u00f3lo los tejidos blandos, sino que tambi\u00e9n destruye el hueso que sostiene los dientes. La enfermedad puede ser absolutamente indolora y suele diagnosticarse con estos s\u00edntomas: enc\u00edas inflamadas y enrojecidas que sangran con facilidad, mal aliento, placa alrededor de los dientes, dientes flojos.<\/p>\n

El objetivo principal del tratamiento es la desinfecci\u00f3n, es decir, la eliminaci\u00f3n de toda la placa (bacterias) y el sarro de alrededor de los dientes, por encima y por debajo de las enc\u00edas. Este tratamiento se realiza siempre con anestesia, porque la placa puede encontrarse a gran profundidad bajo las enc\u00edas y su eliminaci\u00f3n puede ser dolorosa. A veces son necesarias varias sesiones de desinfecci\u00f3n, dependiendo del nivel de la enfermedad.
